AGM 2009: Widening Awareness, Widening Experience | |
We are pleased to announce that AmSAT’s 2009 Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held June 10-14, 2009 in San Francisco, California. As in previous years, the pre-AGM will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, and the AGM on Friday through Sunday. We’re excited to welcome you to The Whitcomb, a beautiful, classy, turn of the century hotel and the site for the 2009 AGM. Centrally located on Market Street across from the Orpheum Theater, the Whitcomb is just steps away from a subway stop that connects you to local airports. You will be walking distance or an easy bus or tram ride from a huge selection of restaurants, shopping areas and museums. And just to pique your interest, in June 2009 there will be a Georgia O'Keefe exhibition at the SF MOMA. For more information on the Whitcomb Hotel go to www.hotelwhitcomb.com. | ![]() |

By choosing this central location, we hope that most people will take advantage of the Bay Area’s convenient public transportation and help us make the 2009 AGM as "green" as possible. If however you do choose to drive, there is fairly reasonable parking in the area. Three airports serve the Bay Area: San Francisco International (SFO) and Oakland International (OAK) will be the most convenient. San Jose International (SJC) is further away, at the south end of the Bay. From SFO and Oakland you can take the subway (BART) directly to the Civic Center Stop at the Whitcomb Hotel. From San Jose there is a shuttle bus that will take you to the railway station and from there you can take Caltrain north to San Francisco. We suggest the following websites for cheaper fares: http://www.BookingBuddy.com; http://www.kayak.com; http://www.Travelzoo.com; http://www.airfarewatchdog.com. | ![]() |
The Whitcomb hotel has a huge ballroom with Tiffany glass, spacious meeting rooms, and a whole suite of 10 teaching rooms on the 8th floor with great views of the city. For those of you who need your java fix, there is a Starbucks on site. You’ll also find a fitness center, piano bar, concierge services and wifi service throughout the entire hotel. We’ve negotiated a reasonable room rate that extends to 3 days either side of the Pre-AGM/AGM. So, we hope you will take advantage of this and extend your stay and make a vacation of it. | ![]() |
